Isuzu Motors was founded in Japan in 1916. The company didn't begin selling vehicles in the United States until after they signed a capital agreement with General Motors in 1971. General Motors and Isuzu formed DMAX in 1998. This was a joint venture intended to produce diesel engines.
The subsidiary of Isuzu Motors that distributes Isuzu trucks in the United States is called Isuzu Commercial Truck of America, Inc. They are also known by the acronym ICTA. The company began operations in March of 1984 and is currently headquartered in Anaheim, California.
ICTA is best known for their medium-duty trucks. In fact, the Isuzu Reach was named the medium-duty truck of the year in 2012 and the Isuzu N-series was named medium-duty truck of the year in 2013. Isuzu's box trucks are some of the most commonly seen trucks on the road, especially the Isuzu NPR. Available in both gas and diesel models, the NPR has a 6.0 liter V8 engine.
