More About Flatbed & Specialty Trailers

A flatbed trailer is either rigid or articulated. The device has a frame that is entirely flat without any sides or a roof. This configuration lets the driver transport and load goods quickly. Construction workers use traditional flatbed trucks to move items that are vulnerable to stormy weather, such as construction gear.

Different Types of Trailers

A flatbed trailer is the most common kind of trailer; it is versatile because construction workers can load the trailer from the rear, top, or side.

Step Deck and Drop Deck

A step deck trailer is also called a drop deck trailer. This trailer is similar to a flatbed because it has a bottom and top deck. They are specifically designed to transport freight that cannot be hauled on a traditional trailer.

Extendable Flatbed

An extendable flatbed trailer is used for items that are too long for a traditional flatbed trailer. Because the trailer is extended, longer cargo never hangs over the deck.

Single Drop Flatbed Expandable

A stretch single-drop trailer is designed for extremely long freight too. Workers use this trailer for items that cannot be hauled on a step deck trailer.

Double Drop Flatbed

A double-drop trailer has a lower deck, so products that are over 10 feet tall fit snugly on the deck. In the middle of the trailer, there is a longer piece called the well. The well is typically 25 to 29 feet long.

Stretch Double Drop

When workers need to haul freight that is too long for a double-drop trailer, they use a stretch double-drop trailer. This trailer usually has two or three axles according to the weight of the freight.

Removable Gooseneck (RGN) Lowboys

A removable gooseneck trailer lets drivers load big items by driving them into the deck. The front of the trailer can be detected; this is helpful because the trailer creates a ramp once it drops to the ground.

Stretch Removable Gooseneck

If cargo is too long for a standard removable gooseneck trailer, a stretch RGN trailer is the best solution. This trailer traditionally has three axles, but trailers that must transport heavier loads will have more axles.

Curtainsides - Conestoga - Tautliner Flatbeds

Curtainside trailers have a tarping system that encloses the freight making it easy for loading and unloading by simply sliding the tarp. Both the Conestoga trailers & the Conestoga's are tarped flatbed trailers.
