Stay Healthy on the Long Haul: Healthy Tips for Living on the Road

Healthier Habits

OK, we have talked about living a healthy life behind the wheel, but we haven't given you any real direction on how to do it. Well here for your reading enjoyment, and your body's overall healthy living, are some tips to use for a healthy body that every trucker should embrace.

  • Eat right -- Greasy fast food might sound yummy, but it is adding flab to your tummy. Think fruit, granola, eggs and yogurt. Snack on baked chips instead of fried chips, and swap out almonds, pecans, sunflower seeds or walnuts instead of cheese puffs and corn chips. Many nuts are also high in Omega 3 acids, which make them heart healthy and extremely good for you.
  • Exercise -- Get into a routine of exercise before you hit the road. A quick jog or a good walk will get you ready for the coming drive. If you really want to get in shape, put in between 30 minutes and 60 minutes of some good aerobics like squats, jumping jacks, lunges, with some push-ups and sit-ups thrown in.
  • Give up Smoking -- Being a trucker on the road gives you the perfect time to quit smoking, especially if you are a long haul driver. You can get a prescription, you can vape or you can go cold turkey. Will it be easy? Certainly not, but being alone and on the road will make it easier because you won't be around other people who smoke.

If you just make it a routine to do these three things, you'll be on your way to a healthy living lifestyle that's just as good for you as it will be for your family. Just take it slow, do what you can, and go from there.
