Driver for Wal-Mart Wins Bendix National Truck Driving Championship

September 17, 2015

Trucking Champion

In an industry that can often be misunderstood, truckers get a lot of flack for the things we do wrong. We even get criticized for the things we don't do wrong. It's nice to get recognized for the things we do right, particularly being a good driver.

Just ask Ronald Emenheiser Sr. Emenheiser is a 47-year old veteran driver from Yorkana, PA, who drives for Wal-Mart Transportation. He took home the grand champion trophy of the Bendix National Truck Driving Championships on August 15. Emenheiser, who has been driving for 25 years, didn't think he would make it this year. He took second place in the Pennsylvania sleeper berth but the first place driver was disqualified. The win came as a shock as he didn't even expect to place in the top five. He dedicated this win to his late father, who was also a trucker. Emenheiser says that his dad tried to get him to stay out of trucking and do something that would keep him home more. He time home is spent with his family and as a firefighter.

The competition had 431 competitors representing 85 countries and every state. The companies' winners are as follows:

  • Wal-Mart Transportation: Ronald Emenheiser, Grand Chmpion and Sleeper Berth 1st Place; Eric Ramsdell, 5-Axle 1st Place
