Stop Unnecessary Idling to Save Fuel
Categories: Diesel Fuel Savings
With the cost of diesel gulping our profits, we're all looking for ways to save fuel and money. Unnecessary truck idling adversely impacts both our wallets and the environment. Idle reduction can add some black to your bottom line, reduce America's dependency on foreign oil, and significantly cut greenhouse gases. I know it's not always possible, but when you can reduce idling, this is a win-win scenario.
Consider the statistics provided by LEaP (Lowering Emissions and Particulates):
- One heavy duty truck spends 2,142 hours per year idling.
- There are nearly 3 million heavy duties on American highways.
- That's more than 5 billion hours a year spent idling.
- Which consumes more than 500 million barrels of oil a year, or almost 1.5 million barrels a day.
- 8% of the daily fuel we burn is spent idling.
You do the math. The U.S. is the largest producer of greenhouse gases. By eliminating unnecessary idling, the U.S. could reduce harmful greenhouse gases by 34.5 million tons a year.
Definitely something to think about.
