Teamsters Work to Keep Mexican Trucks Off US Highways

The Feds are poised to open America's highways to Mexican trucks this weekend. The Transportation Department's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said the first Mexican trucks are scheduled to cross our southern border on Saturday, September 1.

"What a slap in the face to American workers, opening the highways to dangerous trucks on Labor Day weekend, one of the busiest driving weekends of the year," said Teamsters President Jim Hoffa. The Teamsters has asked the Ninth Circuit US Court of Appeals in San Francisco to issue an emergency injunction halting the controversial cross-border trucking program. The one-year pilot program will allow 100 Mexican trucking companies full access to US highways. Since 1982 Mexican trucks have had to stop at the border to transfer loads to US trucks.

The Sierra Club quickly jumped on the Teamster bandwagon. "Before providing unconditional access throughout the country to tens of thousands of big rigs we know little to nothing about, we must insure they meet safety and environmental standards," said Sierra Club executive director Carl Pope.

While the Bush administration has said that the cross-border program would not start without safety certification, which is expected Friday, truckers remain unconvinced that safety requirements will be applied equally to Mexican trucks and drivers. Safety, environmental impact  and, let's face it, unfair competition and job elimination are at the crux of the disagreement between truck drivers and the Feds. American drivers and trucks are required to meet stringent safety regulations. They're not convinced that Mexican drivers and trucks will be held to the same standards.

Again Bush & our own government have sold us out! They just opened Pandora’s Box by letting this cross-border trucking program go forward, and to add insult to injury this administration has sneakily allowed this to take effect on LABOR DAY WEEKEND! (What a slap in the face to all Americans who drive, and or had planned on this industry for a living especially when the American people have said no to this)

You know they will probably let anything pass inspection, and gain entry. Wages will decrease, and people will loose their jobs. Another fine example of outsourcing everything.

I'm not a trucker I'm a steelworker and know how nafta & all the other trade agreements have torn apart the middle class, this administration & government altogether care nothing about working americans

Also I am not a Teamster, I am in complete agreement with keeping Mexican trucks off our highways. I appreciate all you are trying to do, along with OOIDA, Sierra Club & anyone else that does NOT support Mexican trucks running our highways. Pres. Bush appealed to the court stating to do otherwise would "strain diplomatic relations with Mexico". He seems to have forgotten all about the "American economic relations", not to mention our safety. Please continue to help keep our borders closed. Thanks

The government can't keep track of American truck drivers and their hours. We all know the driver logs are "cooked". So how on earth do they think they can keep track of Mexican drivers! Also this just opened a door for terrorists to come driving in major bad stuff and setting off truck bombs. Do we need a truck version of a 911 to get Bush's attention?
Posted by Rebecca Shepard on August 30, 2007 at 7:36 PM

We already let Canadian trucks in the U.S., when that happened many good jobs and companies ended overnight here in the Buffalo, NY area. Guess what? Freight rates didnt go down. Bush and the rest of those idiots in Washington don't care about the working man!
Posted by Larry Houck on August 30, 2007 at 7:56 PM

Are there any politicians trying to stop this? Besides the Bush admin. what politicians are supporting it?
Posted by dave dennis on August 31, 2007 at 5:15 AM

I am going to be terrified for myself and family driving on the highways now that Mexicans that cannot speak or READ English, with substandard, poor driving skills, and defective trucks are going to be on the same road. My husband is a truck driver and eventually this will result in him losing his job to a Mexcan. BUSH is the stupidest president in the history of the United States

I found this this morning on another site where this travesty is being discussed and I thought people here might like to see it. Maybe someone can pass it to the Teamsters for me? I tried their site but they are not accepting emails. I'm not sure if I can post the FBI link here but I'm going to try. This is what's coming to our freeways, cities and towns! A LOT FASTER THAN YOU CAN SAY RAISE THE UNION DUES WHAT A WORTLESS F**KING UNION LEADER SUPPSETO BE THE LARGEST UNION IN THE WORLD THEN ACT LIKE A LEADER YOU FAT SLOB
Posted by largedildo on August 31, 2007 at 12:42 PM

Exactly. All the big rigs should be mobilized and stop the Mexican trucks from coming across the border. Don't tell me how safe they are. I don't want them here. It is just another way to take jobs from Americans. They had an illegql cleaning planes at one of the busiest airports in the U.S. Her "security clearance" didn'tshow she was using a fake S.S card. We already know terrorists are coming across the borders. How hard could it be to hijack one or more of these trucks? How do we stop this insanity?
Posted by Myke on August 31, 2007 at 2:08 PM

mexican trucks are allowed to travel 20 miles into US territory at certain crossings. Canada has full access already. US trucks have full access to Canada and now we will have full access to Mexico. That's called free trade. Don't like it and want politicians to bail you out? Maybe you should think about moving to Cuba or China.

By Paul M. Krawzak COPLEY NEWS SERVICE 6:14 p.m. August 31, 2007 WASHINGTON – A federal appellate court on Friday refused to temporarily block an administration plan to allow Mexican trucks to roam freely throughout the United States beginning next week. The decision by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals means nothing stands in the way of plans to begin a controversial pilot program – possibly as early as Thursday – to test the safety of Mexican trucks on U.S. highways. The Teamsters union and several other groups opposed to the border opening filed suit Wednesday to block the program, which the groups claim does not fully comply with congressional requirements. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco disagreed. In a brief order released shortly before the court closed for the Labor Day weekend, a three-judge panel said the request for an emergency motion was denied. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said earlier this week it expects to open the border to long haul Mexican truck traffic as soon as Thursday.

Unlike what Tony posted above on August 31, 2007, the Jews are not responsible for the loss of jobs, factories, and salaries to Communist China and overpopulated and underpaid Mexican workers. It was the Dems under Slick Willie and the rest of the sellout Dems like The Fat Boy Kennedy and Super Rich, Super Confuser, Super Phony JFK(erry), etc. with only a handful of Dems opposing NAFTA, WTO and Most Favored Nation Treatment for Communist China and India such David Bonier and Marcy Kaptor, both representatives from Ohio. Ralph Nader and Pat Buchannan also vigorously opposed all these so - called "free trade" measures made into US law. Just rethink your own history and stop with the Jews and Zionists. In the meantime, Bush is no good as either a war leader or as a domestic leader. In fact, I say, impeach Bush-Commander-In-Defeat; impeach Bush-No-Mexican-Left-Behind

I was going to enter a truck driving school this month. But it appears there is no reason now as I wont be able to compete with a mexican truck driver with years of experience working for $2.50 an hour.
Posted by bill on September 1, 2007 at 10:44 AM

People it is time to fight back where it hurts them the most...in their wallets. The reason they keep overturning laws and winning is because they sue, and start court battles to hold up enforcement of our immigration laws saying these laws are unconstitutional. We as american citizens need to do the same, it is the only way to fight them with a chance of winning. As american citizens our rights are being trampeled. In many ways I wont go into as it would go on and on. But to name a few: American citizens are exposed to unafe roads now,(even if the gov. wont admit it)having illegals driving here not knowing the language, how can they read our signs, know our safety laws? When immigrants come legally they are made to get tested medically for certain diseases, they have to get certain immuniazations etc.. and they have to know english. By being exposed to illegals who havnt been medically tested or immunized we are exposed to various disease and sickness that we otherwise wouldnt be exposed to. Also our kids education suffers by being in overcrowded schools with kids not properly immunized and who live in overcrowded unsanitary coditions, who cant speak/read the language. Now our roads are not only open to illegals driving when they #1)dont have valid driving licenses/insurance, #2)now they are going to be let in legally driving huge semi's not knowing our laws, not being able to read our signs, in trucks that are not up to the safety standards set for US truckers. We need to lawyer up indepently or in groups, and do as the ACLU and other advocates do for the illegal immigrants and foreign workers who are taking advantage, not only taking our jobs, but lowering wages and making it hard to compete with companies that employ illegals because of the lower wages illegals work for. We need to show the courts that we will fight back legally as the pro-illegals/foreign workers advocates do, and sue! If you get into an accident with a mexican truck, and the driver cant speak/read english or is driving a truck that is unsafe: SUE THEM and the GOVERNMENT for allowing them in to harm you!!!This is the only way to get anything done, it may seem extreme but it is what they do, so we should do the same. When the government is dealing with lawsuits from both sides, like us sueing for them not imposing the same laws on them as are imposed on us, and us being harmed by illegals that they allowed in unregulated to the same laws and standards and safety practices as US citizens are bound to. Take for example the situation in Hazelton, PA: They are saying that enforcing the SS# verification of illegals is imposing on their rights, well then americans as well should start using whatever SS# be it a made up SS#'s or saying we dont have SS#'s or whatever as illegals do, when they try to prosecute americans for SS fraud or whatever, we do as they do and say it is unconstitutional and that if illegals dont have to abide SS laws then no-one does, what is good for them is good for all. If we dont stand up to them legally by filing our own suits this country is going to end up one big uncorrupt country with SS#'s meaning nothing, and with americans at the bottom of the food chain so to speak. But if enough americans stand up and unite legally showing our rights are being trampled, maybe we can show them that whats good for illegals goes for everyone, or else they start imposing laws not just for us, but for them also. As it stands they are not being held accountable for breaking laws that US citizens are prosecuted for breaking, these trucks they are letting in will not hold the same safety standards as our trucks do, and a majority of the drivers wont know english well enough to drive safely per US driving laws, and when it happens that our citizens are hurt by them WE MUST SUE not just the mexican trucker/company but also the government that allowed them in to harm us!

Line your rigs up and turn them off. I'm not a trucker, but I don't want mexicans on our highways. America does not move without you truckers. Strike, don't drive a mile. I'll endure the hardship and so will many other Americans in support of keeping our highways safe and allowing American truckers to earn a decent wage. I say line 'em up and clog the highways, let the produce rot, let the right on time delivery supply chain grind to a screeching halt. Only deliver what's necessary to save lives, stop everything else until our government starts doing what's best for the American worker. Only the Teamsters have to power to shut down American commerce, nothing can get ordered or sold if a trucker isn't involved in the chain. DO IT, show America the strength of the Teamsters!! Protect our families and your jobs!!!

I agree with you all about stopping the trucks and picketing the border/striking whatever it takes, and I'm not a trucker but my grandfather and uncle both were.I back you all and I'm sure many americans would because many are sick of the crap illegals and foreign workers get away with, no-one wants those rickety trucks with illiterate drivers who wont follow our laws on our roads. You do know that the average mexican has a 4-6 grade education right? Their government only provides elementary school, after that the parents must pay as it's considered "higher education" and most wont or cant pay so they are uneducated/undereducated as compared to us and our laws here. Show congress who really has the power here, the truckers do control commerce if you think about it. I also think people should start sueing as I stated above, if americans unite and hit them where it hurts...In their wallets, we can take back our country. If no-one gets involved then this country is going to be one big corrupt mess where US citizens are held accountable and will suffer from illegals and foreign workers living by a seperate set of laws!

I completely agree with my fellow American ccr440. So much so, that I'm going to become an attorney. At my age, it's going to be tough. I'll start the process on Tuesday. I hope that others will put aside the time to get the required education to defend our great nation. The lack of money has always stopped me from going to college. Loans, grants, lots more work, anything to get me through this. I just can't believe we've opened the borders on such a huge scale. The 9th circuit court of appeals (http://www.ca9.uscourts.gov/) was working the day they denied Americans, they were questioning the Navy's use of sonar. (http://www.ca9.uscourts.gov/ca9/Documents.nsf/54dbe3fb372dcb6c88256ce50065fcb8/a1a0c2a7d488458b8825731e00030a0a/$FILE/0756157o.pdf) Don't ask me why they hate Americans so much. I'm starting the good fight. Thanks everyone. And stay at least 20 miles north of the border for the next few years.

The people south of the border are taking ALL of our jobs! The fruit growers say they need these people to work in their fields so let them come here. Well guess what, they are here and have been here only they no longer work in the fields.....they are taking our consruction jobs, our driving jobs and what ever else they can RIGHT UNDER OUR NOSES! It's their plan, in their minds and the politician's mind it's it's their right. American drivers have to get background checks to drive hazmat and tanks to "protect America from terrorism". Now the terrorist and illeagal mexicans get to drive their trucks into our country! It wouldn't suprise me if they used the money from these background checks to fund the GOD FORSAKEN HIGHWAY that they want to build! I can feel the damn knife in my going in back as I type. ALL TRUCK DRIVERS IN THIS COUNTRY need to stop driving and DEMAND to get ALL illeagals out NOW! We know who they are, we can put them on trucks like they came into our country on and drive them right back out! Also what good would it do to sue these people, they don't have to abide by our laws, they can go back across the border and forget about it. It happens all the time, they commit crimes and go back home. I am not a Teamster but I will do whatever it takes to support them be it ration food or hold a sign. We must rally NOW!

BEAWARE' This is the first visible movement, the American people are witnessing of the NAFTA/SPP agreement. To start the ball rolling with allowing mexican trucks anywhere in the USA. Our equal but separate branches of goverment for the first time in history has crossed the line where the EXECUTIVE branch in my view twisted the arm of the JUDICAL branch, not to allow an Injunction to stop the mexican trucks from entering the usa because they have not met the requirements that ADOT requiers on american trucks this is a creeping path towards a DICTATORSHIP in our country. mexican trucks will be given a pass a right of passage that american trucks would not get. this is a slap in the face of all AMERICANS, notice we are a nation of laws or we have anarchy. It is equal treatment under the law not selective treatment. When the goverment failes to lead the people, the people have a constitutal right to lead the goverment. The people need not fear the goverment the goverment needs to fear the people, When the goverment fears the people we have LIBERTY, but when the people fear the goverment we have TYRANNY. GOD HELP US ALL, The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep an bear arms is as a last resort to protect themselves against the tyranny in goverment. If there must be trouble let it be in my day, that my child may have peace. I would like to comment on Nic's posting of the 31st. While what you are saying is technically correct on paper. It does not pass the reality check. The negatives far outweigh the positives in the allowance of Mexican truckers being given 20 miles, which will increase as the situation progresses. The mileage however is not the issue. The issue here is that this will negatively impact the American Trucking industry with a decrease in wages and loss of employment. While legally under the free trade agreement US truckers are given access to Mexican roads, Mexico does not have the resources to by our products. Even if this was not an issue; few trucking companies can afford to truck freight to Mexico. There will be a few large border companies that will take advantage of this situation but in the greater scheme of things this does not produce a positive. One of the reality checks here is that small companies will go out of business as they can not afford to keep pace with the larger ones which will, even by itself, create loss of jobs and lowered wages. Also last by not least, US truckers will not be given the same rights and privileges on Mexican highways as Mexican truckers will be in the states. This is a serious labour issue and I hope that those of you who are truly concerned, especially those in the trucking industry whose opinions, observations and words will carry some weight pressing forward voicing your concerns to the Teamsters and all agencies which can produce positive results. By allowing MEXICAN truckers to operate within our borders our so-called government has sold out it's own citizens...Not only has our government allowed illegal aliens from Mexico and elsewhere to enter (and remain) in the US, taking jobs that American's "WILL DO", and leaving Americans taking the lower paying jobs - the government is now going to allow Mexican Truckers to take truck driving jobs AWAY FROM American citizens! Every mile a Mexican trucker drives within the US - is a mile an AMERICAN CITIZEN does not drive! Any Freight a Mexican Driver hauls is Freight that an American Trucker is not going to get to haul! Personally, I'd like to see US Truckers (and others) do whatever it takes (non-violently)to place obsticles in the way of every Mexican truck that crosses the US border, including blocking their paths including loading and unloading docks, and restricting their movements ie: not letting them pass on the highway! American Citizens need to let them know FOR CERTAIN that they are NOT WELCOME in the US...PERIOD! Teamsters and other union workers should, in my opinion, do whatever it takes to make it IMPOSIBLE for freight hauling, loading and unloading of Mexican trucks to take place ANYWHERE within our borders - PERIOD!

Besides supporting the american truckers in whatever they do, be it strike and plug up the border or whatever they have to do, I support them. As I stated before my grandpa and uncle were life long truckers, I am a supporter in them shutting down the US commerce cuz thats what it will take to show our politicians this country isn't run by illegals, but by hard working law abiding americans, while illegals and the mexican truckers live by a different set of laws and lower standards! This is in regards to the comment posted by: "ShitsGonnaHitTheFan on September 2, 2007 at 8:09 AM" What I said was we need to hit the politicians where they are hurt the most, and sue them for allowing us to be exposed to unsafe, uneducated, undereducated mexican drivers. And for letting illegals stay here and live under a seperate set of laws. They enforce laws on us as US citizens, and our truckers have to comply with certain education standards, safety standards, and background checks etc.... But illegals and the mexcican truckers they allow in aren't being held to the same standards nor the same laws as we are as US citizens. I think if american citizens do as the ACLU does for illegals, and start court battles towards our government, sueing if possible, because our rights and safety are being violated by being exposed to not only the mexican truckers but also to illegals in general because they 1) live by different laws than us, and they hold up actions by using courts and sueing for rights they dont deserve, they are lawbreakers!!(they deserve the right to be prosecuted for: fraud, identity theft, SS# fraud, and forgery, to name a few). 2)They dont have the safety and medical immunizations/standards in mexico as we do in the US, opening us up to sickness and disease. (Why do you think our crops are tainted with stuff like E.Coli? Cuz they are defecating/crapping in our fields!)They are not immunized as we are, and the majority live in overcrowded, unsanitary living conditions, which exposes us and our kids to alot of stuff we otherwise wouldn't be exposed to! 3)they commit crimes against americans directly and indirectly, which the government is responsible for ultimately, because they aren't enforcing immigration laws, and they are letting in mexican truckers that arent held up to the same standards as our truckers/countries standards. The mexican people dont get public education for 13 yrs like we do. They get 4-6 yrs if their lucky! Then it is not paid for by the government but by the people themselves like private school, who subsequently cant afford it and are therefore uneducated/undereducated per US standards. I am sure if the teamsters lawyers took another approach, citing the health/education difference, and the fact that our government is going to be allowing free access to our country by truckers not only undereductaed, but also healthwise they are underimmunized as compared to our countries laws here, and their trucks will be a safety disaster. And yes as many of you stated, terrorists will have open access now. I belong to a group called the GRASSROOTS RAPID RESPONSE RALLY TEAM here in Ohio. All americans need to open their eyes, unite, and make our government understand that we demand all people be held accountable to the same laws, safety procedures etc...or we will stop the countries commerce (per the truckers) and US citizens/legal immigrants willtake court action. The Legal immigrants have to be medically checked for diseases etc..and have to get immunizations, I'm sure these truckers wont be. So my point was to sue our government when these people harm us/our families, not the illegal people themselves, they dont have anything to lose!. God that would be difficult as they change their names and move like we change underwear to avoid not only prosecution, but to also avoid bill payment, and to get free medical treatment, among other stuff! ,(they usually dont even leave this country but move to a different place within the countr

Well I would wish that the patriotic gas station owners would refuse to sell gas and oil to those truckers from Mexico. If truckers would get set up at gas stations and run them off it might help/ but how do you fight the US government when it will come after you with lethal force? There is a grave marker on the higheway I live on, and it was a great guy killed by a drunken Mexican here illegally, like so many Americans they have killed in accidents. 100 per month last year nationwide toll. I am afraid that the truckers will be bringing in Meth, cocaine and Weed by the ton. Mexico supplies 90% of the cocaine to the US per a DEA report/do you think open trucking will expedite the process? Bush family was involved with cocaine shipments in the past, and what does Hillary have to say about this? Does she know about Mena AR during Clintons governorship? To quote Nancy Reagan "Just say No way, Jose!"

This is really hard to stomach. My husband is a flatbed driver, and he strives to obey operating procedures. I sit here and battle with brokers all day just to dispatch him. Mexicans drivers will take our FREIGHT, MONEY, and THREATEN THE INTEGRITY of our highways. We have been to Laredo and see how the drivers drive! So now I will be trying even harder to get loads, while the Mexican drivers dont have to worry about crap! We will keep our million dollar cargo policy, performance bond, IFTA taxes, and safety audits, because the FMSCA requires them; and let the Mexican drivers have the easy way out. How many lives will be destroyed because of Bush? STRIKE! We are located in Texas and already see the loads diminishing. God Bless Truckers and the people that help them stay driving!

I hope the Highway Patrol will start inspecting these trucks and drver's licenses immedaitely to save the lives of other commuters. Our trucking industry has paid taxes to build these roads now B Bush gives them to the foreigners. Bush is a real loser all the way around for expressing his hatred for Americans and love for foreigners.

There aren't enough inspectors to inspect all of the traffic the Mexican companies are going to send this way. They will be allowed to operate unsafe rigs and we don't know anything about the safety of the driver! WARNING! I'm not a truck driver. I spent 25 years as a computer tech, telecommunications engineer, and technical specialist. I lost my job almost 3 years ago to outsourcing to "favored nation India" and cannot find a replacement! I am still unemployed and struggling to do odd jobs to make ends meet. All the jobs I qualify for went to India! My hubby is a truck driver and looks like this industry is going the same way as all the tech jobs only this time to Mexico. Our government is selling us out! If you wonderred why Congress & the Pres were trying so hard to give illegal aliens "legal" status, it was so they could completely open the borders. They have built less than 20 miles of the border fence and, instead of a double fence as called for, it is only a single fence and not built to the standard required by the bill. Only one organization I know of is fighting the government on this issue and was a big reason the shamnesty bill was defeated. If you don't know what to do and WANT TO DO SONTHING, go to NumbersUSA (dot) com and sign up for free. They will send FREE faxes for you to Congress and the Pres to fight this and other illegal immigration and open borders issues. If we do nothing, we will deserve whatever this money hungry government shoves down our throats! Voice your anger where someone will hear you! PLEASE!

The Mexican truck pilot program is one of the scariest things I've heard of. We have a trucking company consisting of 6 trucks. We've already encountered problems with Mexican drivers, unlicensed trucks, unlicensed drivers, illegal cab drivers, a driver who took the license plate off in front of us so we couldn't write down the number, and a few other things. Something I haven't heard anyone ask yet is: WHO WILL PAY FOR DAMAGES CAUSED BY MEXICAN TRUCKS? What about fatality accidents? How in the world would you ever get a settlement out of Mexican insurance companies? Thus, American insurance companies will lose big time. Or, our insurance will insure everything BUT accidents involving Mexican trucks. Or, can we sue our government for their incredibly ludicrous pilot plan? And who of our American drivers want to go to Mexico to deliver anything? My son-in-law went to Mexico on a fishing trip and was held up at knife-point by two thugs. He's lucky to be alive! Why hasn't there been more about this on TV? It's been pretty hush-hush compared to other issues we have. It was originally understood that Canadian trucks were supposed to come to USA, deliver, then pick up a load going back to Canada. They don't - they stay here and take our freight. Plus, it took us nearly 3 months to get paid after taking a load from a Canadian company. So if Mexican trucks come here their companies will probably start brokerage services. How will American drivers get paid from them? This is a fat land-mine. Thank you Teamsters and all the organizations that are trying to stop this. I've called Washington twice to protest, but I'm just one little woman. What can we do next?

We stopped amnesty. Not really. Now they can come across the border in the backs of trucks. This is all to rob Americans of jobs. Have you seen the clip that Lou Dobbs is outraged about. It shows a lawyer teaching a group of people how not to hire Americans. They want this country to be like Mexico. Where the elite sit on the hill in their mansion and look down on poverty. I live in Las Vegas. Hillary Clinton was here a couple weeks ago sucking up to the illegals. They had a contract coming up with the culinary union. She promised to walk the picket line with them if they had to strike. Is this all the proof we need that illegals are voting? I saw a picture of the members of the culinary union. Not a white face or black face among them. A spokesman for Station Casinos said if we deport the illegals he will need 50,000 people to replace them. I suppose he said this to let us know what a hardship it would be on him. To me it only meant he is working illegals in jobs Americans could have. And that is what will happen to the truckers. The owners will hire illegals at a cheaper wage. If the truckers union will stop the Mexican trucks from coming in it will prove they are looking out for American jobs. If they don't then kiss your job goodbye. They are even giving us a choice in the next election. Dems and Reps are both fighting for amnesty. So the Clintons Bushes and Kennedys can see us as poor as Mexico. The person who "owns" Mexico is a trillionair. He has passed Bill Gates. Just type inhttp://www.limitstogrowth.org/WEB-text/mexicoisrich.html to see that Mexico can support its own but won't because the illegals send 20 billion a year home from the U.S. Plus they get free med. So let Mexico support it's own. We are tired of supporting Mexicans here and in Mexico. But they stop us at every thing we try. Someone please find the answer.

We can't give up, and I think the best thing is to elect Ron Paul as our President. I have been reaing about him, and listening to him talk, and he is the one who is not lying. He is against this mexican trucker thing and the related issues on immigration, national security, and trade. It is time for us to fix this country, and I see this as our last chance.

There are those of us who are fighting this illegal invasion. We NEED truckers to take pictures and log on to www.stopthenorthamericanunion.com. Then go to the bottom right link in green that says "The Forum"...and you can find your way from there. We need to hear from you as our "boots on the ground" as to what you're seeing out there, and I know a lot of you have laptops in your trucks. Log on and send pictures and comments. We are working with some politicians to get this stopped. I too think driving to the border and shutting down your trucks is a GREAT idea. The truckers I knew when I was younger would NEVER have stood for this! Try this video if you want to see what's REALLY going on! It's a real eye opener, and this invasion and the messycan truckers is just the tip of the iceberg http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1656880303867390173 Don't let the beginning fool you, although it's interesting. I read with interest the postings regarding Mexican trucking in the US. My daddy & brother were truckers and it greatly distresses me to to witness the demise of US trucking. Everyone here seems to quite seriously contemplate what can can & should be done. I'm not that familiar with today's unions however I see here the growing dissatisfaction with union action which can be an excellent tool when correctly used. Each one of us who harbours serious concerns needs to reach out to others in our area, get together, form a group, willing to work, research the issue, place it on paper, elect a representative of your group and take the message to all of your representatives and union leaders. If enough do this, these issues will be addressed. Everyone wants to be re-elected. If their constituency will not support them, they will bend. Elections are approaching, let them know they will be voted out of office and then do it. Attend every campaign stop with well focused articulate concerns. A serious grassroots movement could stop it before it starts but if we simply vent out concerns it won't happen and one person cannot do I alone. It is hard work. I hope that we all reach out and take control of this before it takes control of us. "Listen to your heart. Never stop listening." Henry Quick Bear, LAKOTA

Edwards Statement On Bush's Open Highways Initiative 3 September, Chapel Hill, North Carolina – Senator John Edwards today criticized the Bush administration's open-highways initiative that would allow Mexican trucks to travel freely within the United States. The initiative is expected to go into effect this week, unless it is blocked on Wednesday by the Department of Transportation's Inspector General. Edwards released the following statement: "Our trade policies should put workers and families first. Opening America's highways to Mexico's long-haul diesel trucks puts American jobs and safety at risk. The Department of Transportation has the power to block the program. I urge them to use it. Multinational corporations and their Washington lobbyists greased the way to extend NAFTA onto American highways and streets, without regard for the impact on the environment or on the safety of America’s workers and families...." We need to protect our good-paying, unionized trucking jobs. Edwards cares. The Teamsters Trucker-2-Trucker website has a report in Teamsters Work to Keep Mexican Trucks Off US Highways. The internet is becoming more and more a valuable tool in helping to effect change. If you are not interested in working in your geographical area to form a group or perhaps not have the time or resources to do this then one mild manner of protest in which each individual here could engage in protest designed to effect positive action is to create a petition with each one signing it, and then for each one to send it to every congressman and senator, representative, union leader and anyone with potential to hold authority in this area in the states via email. Venting alone will not create change but working together can. I think of Daddy and my brother and how if this had happened in their generation they could have not raised a family. I find the position of the AFL-CIO against Mexican truckers difficult to take, in light of the fact that the Unions are accepting illegal aliens into their membership, in an effort to generate dues. Expect the illegals to dump the unions, and forgo losing the dues money, in order to keep more money. And when their dependency has been cemented, and the aging Baby Boomers are retired, they will strike and demand double-wages of $30 to $40 an hour.

It is a very sad day for America; to have an appointed regime in office that is able to do as it so wishes. They are so called Americans that are selling out America. This will be the final straw that shall break the camels back. “kcsmart.com” Rumors of a United Americas are to become true, we shall not have our bill of rights or constitution. We shall live in the Americas; our dollar will be like the Euro. The teamster’s have tried to stop this best they could; James Hoffa is living on his fathers name; he is the son of Jimmy. Times are different from Jimmy to James today. James Hoffa is much more intelligent than his late muscled father. Simple solution to this all; all truckers must regardless of feeling of organizing must join together, even if it is under the teamster’s. Some people do not like the thought of unions; but what else is there? “United we stand, divided we shall fall!” I believe that the damage already incurred to the US is basically irreversible; people must rise up against this regime and take our government back! I say to hell with the world economy, there is nothing in it for the common US citizen except for heart ache a broken wallet! I shall not give up my right’s I shall die with the constitution and bill of rights. How many are with me??

Bush is the worst President Ever ! Bush and the rest of the Pro Mexico Bastards in our Government could care less about the American working class and our Country's borders . He is a lame-duck who has appointed Pro-Mexican, Pro Socialist, puppets to high government offices of power, that do not support our laws by either over turning them, or not enforcing them to fit their Pro Mexican addenda, Flip-Flop Clinton is no better of a choice to take over either. Union's have always supported the Democrats during election time, with money and endorsements and votes. What are these union endorsed Congressional, Senate and House elected people doing to help stop NAFTA ? Where are they ? Why are they allowing all this open border free pass for Mexicans ? ... The answer is simple, they do not give a shit ... People like Ted Kennedy, Barbra Boxer, Hillary Clinton, John McCain and people like the Mayor of Los Angeles being elected and trusted by us are socialist ..... I can only hope organized labor finally gets it head out of it ass and only supports and cast's votes in '08 for people who will support the working class of American Citizens ! The only way to stop this NAFTA crap is to fire these bastards that support it and Mexicans instead of America and Americans ...... You people think this NAFTA Mexican truck deal is bad , just wait until KCS Mexican Railroad service starts .... hauling goods from Mexican Deep Water ports into and through the USA direct to the KCS Rail terminal in Kansas City .... Mexican railroad , to run in USA under NAFTA .... WND Exclusive Commentary Coming soon to U.S.: Mexican customs office Posted: June 5, 2006 1:00 a.m. Eastern Kansas City is planning to allow the Mexican government to open a Mexican customs office in conjunction with the Kansas City SmartPort. This will be the first foreign customs facility allowed to operate on U.S. soil. City leaders voted last month to give the facility an innocuous name to hide its true identity as an arm of the Mexican government, staffed by Mexican officials. In fact, Kansas City is so enthusiastic about the opportunity, the cost of building the $3 million dollar facility for Mexico will be paid for by Kansas City taxpayers, not by the Mexican government. The current plan for the NAFTA Super Corridor calls for the construction of a 12-lane highway (six lanes in each direction) along Interstate 35. The Kansas City SmartPort is designed to be the central hub in the planned NAFTA north-south superhighway cutting through the heart of the United States. Supercargo ships, carrying goods made by cheap labor in the Far East and China, will unload in the Mexican port at Lazaro Cardenas, eliminating the need to use costly union longshoremen workers in Los Angeles or Long Beach. Rather than transporting the containers by trucks from the West Coast, using Teamster drivers, or on rail, with the assistance of railroad labor in the United Transportation Union, the containers will be loaded onto Mexican non-union railroads at Lazaro Cardenas. At Monterrey, Mexico, the containers will then be loaded onto Mexican non-union semi-trailer trucks that will cross the border at Laredo, Texas, to begin their journey north along the Trans-Texas Corridor, the first leg of the planned continental NAFTA Super Corridor. To speed the crossing at Laredo, Texas, the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America working groups within the U.S. Department of Commerce will allow Mexican trucks to be equipped with electronic FAST technology so the trucks can cross the border in express lanes. At the Kansas City SmartPort hub, the containers can be transferred to semi-trailers heading east or west, or simply stay on the Mexican trucks all the way into Canada. According to the SmartPort website, in March 2005, Kansas City signed a cooperative pact with representatives from the Mexican state of Michoacan, where Lazaro Cardenas is located, to increase the cargo volume between Lazaro Cardenas and Kansas City. The whole point is to move cargo fast, using cheap, below union-wage scale Mexican workers to move the containers from Asia into the heart of the USA. Shipments will be pre-screened in Southeast Asia, and the shipper will send advance notification to Mexican and American Customs with the corresponding ''pre-clearance'' information on the cargo. Upon arrival in Mexico, containers will pass through multiple X-ray and gamma ray screenings, allowing any containers with anomalies to quickly be removed for further inspection. Container shipments will be tracked using intelligent transportation systems, or ITS, that could include global positioning systems or radio frequency identification systems, and monitored on their way to inland trade-processing centers in Kansas City and elsewhere in the United States. As the Kansas City SmartPort website brags: ''Kansas City offers the opportunity for sealed cargo containers to travel to Mexican port cities with virtually no border delays. It will streamline shipments from Asia and cut the time and labor costs associated with shipping through the congested ports on the West Coast.'' Kansas City Southern, or KCS, has just completed putting together what is being called ''The NAFTA Railroad.'' On Jan. 1, 2005, KCS took control of The Texas Mexican Railway Company and the U.S. portion of the International Bridge in Laredo, Texas. Then in April 2005, KCS purchased the controlling interests in Transportacion Ferrov

MR.HOFFA, TEAMSTERS? Are you reading this? Instead of complaining on this why don't you help us organize? How about letting us join your union? I try to tell people about then teamsters but there is so much misinformation nobody listens. Why aren't you at truckstops organizing the drivers? Why aren't you trying for MEMBERSHIP like your FATHER and TEAMSTERS before YOU?. I for one would love to join the TEAMSTERS. Every truck driver should. Think about it if we were organized we wouldn't have so much rules and regulatins to deal with. YOU TEAMSTERS and YOU MR.HOFFA have the abilities to ORGANIZE the TRUCKERS of this COUNTRY. STOP WAISTING YOUR TIME WITH THE GOVERMENT AND ORGANIZE AND UNITE THE TRUCKERS. THEN YOU/WE CAN GET SOMETHING DONE. THE POLITICIANS CAN CARE LESS. DEMOS/REPUBS THEY DON'T CARE......Thats my soapbox.

Hello; I realize that many of the truck drivers are concerned about the policy that will allow Mexican companies to send their trucks into the United States to deliver goods throughout the United States. Most of the American drivers are concerned with the safety issues. I am however concerned with the economic issue as well. The reality of the situation is that these Mexican companies will be sending their drivers to work in the U.S. The payroll differences between our countries will constitute a very unfair advantage to the Mexican companies over the U.S. companies. Needless to say, these Mexican companies will not only be transporting goods produced in Mexico to a U.S destination but they will also be picking up throughout the U.S. as well. I seriously doubt that these foreign drivers will be restricted to bringing a load into the U.S. and taking it directly to the destination and then returning directly to Mexico. I feel that once many of the drivers are in the country they will continue to move loads throughout the U.S. for as long as possible. This is going to be a direct competition with the U.S. brokers, the U.S. drivers, and the U.S. trucking companies. This is a competition that the U.S. can not win as the Mexican companies do not have to pay near the same salary or mileage rate to their drivers. I further feel that the Mexican companies will not be subject to the same taxation either on their trucks or on their employees. The Canadian companies also profit much more when they are operating in the U.S. and this is unfair business to the U.S. companies as well. The difference is that the economies between Canada and the U.S. are much closer than the economies between the U.S. and Mexico. Whether this is required due to NAFTA or not… unfair labor practices are going to put many of our companies out of business and many of our drivers out of work. Sincerely Dan Hermann

I believe it is now too late; we as Americans shall have to endure and live with the world economy. We complain and complain. We shall not have to enjoy the working benefits our grand parents and parents have enjoyed. Big paying jobs area thing of the past or soon to be something of the past. Now this shall be the demise of the trucking industry and rail roads. These high paying jobs shall be traded for low paying out sourced jobs by Mexican companies; why you so ask? The only people we have to blame are our selves; we are always looking to save money. We shop at Wal-Mart’s and the like. For example, we are looking to buy a paint brush, we are shopping at Home Depot; after looking around we find paint brushes, but they are all made in China. We stop and think I am not going to buy a Chinese made brush and continue shopping. On the way home we remember we need this paint brush, we then stop at a store specializing in paint supplies and find brushes, yes they have American made brushes! Wow they are expensive between ten to sixteen dollars for the size that we are looking for. Mind you we are not professional painters; it is something only needed for a one time deal. So we still buy this brush made by XYZ, Inc. some place in Iowa. This sale may be keeps this company running for another day and keep these high wage earners a job. But sadly we as Americans do not stand together; we will buy these lower price products. We might protest what is now happening at the borders, do you truly believe that your government is going to do any thing? Do not be silly, if you are a large wage earner such as a union man you will have to learn how to except world economy wages. If you make fifty five cents per mile, you shall just have to learn to adapt to only making let say thirty cents per mile as so shall the Canadians and Mexican truckers. It is the world economy, gone are the days of America as we thought it was to be. Abraham Lincoln once said, “This country shall never fall to invading foreign army, but shall destroy it’s self from with in!” How sadly and very true it has come. I look for us as a nation to be dissolved and become a new country with Canada and Mexico. Yes, good buy to our “bill of rights”; good by to our “constitution” and also to our dollar bill, look to Europe as a example with the Euro dollar. It is very sickening to think of; how many of our forefathers died to protect and give life to our nation. Some people will take drastic action in the near future to come, there will be groups called militia that will rise and then fall; the brain washed people will be told buy the government that these groups are terrorist and be extinguished. Hard working Mexican and Chinese are to be the ones that shall have, and we shall be the have not. What are your lazy children doing? Playing on computers while some out sourced lawn care company mows your lawn? If you look at how lazy America’s children are, it is a very good sign of your retirement future to come. So I close this and say you must not worry, there is nothing that you can do about this you all shall have to just learn to adapt and cope with things to come! That is all!

Truckers owe it to themselves to find out about Ron Paul and how they can help get him nominated. Restoring America begins with Americans. True Americans are standing up. Here are his views regarding NAFTA. American Independence and Sovereignty So called free trade deals and world governmental organizations like the International Criminal Court (ICC), NAFTA, GATT, WTO, and CAFTA are a threat to our independence as a nation. They transfer power from our government to unelected foreign elites. The ICC wants to try our soldiers as war criminals. Both the WTO and CAFTA could force Americans to get a doctor’s prescription to take herbs and vitamins. Alternative treatments could be banned. The WTO has forced Congress to change our laws, yet we still face trade wars. Today, France is threatening to have U.S. goods taxed throughout Europe. If anything, the WTO makes trade relations worse by giving foreign competitors a new way to attack U.S. jobs. NAFTA’s superhighway is just one part of a plan to erase the borders between the U.S. and Mexico, called the North American Union. This spawn of powerful special interests, would create a single nation out of Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, with a new unelected bureaucracy and money system. Forget about controlling immigration under this scheme. And a free America, with limited, constitutional government, would be gone forever. Let’s not forget the UN. It wants to impose a direct tax on us. I successfully fought this move in Congress last year, but if we are going to stop ongoing attempts of this world government body to tax us, we will need leadership from the White House. We must withdraw from any organizations and trade deals that infringe upon the freedom and independence of the United States of America. http://www.ronpaul2008.com

It is obvious that those of us here harbour real concerns. It is only to late for the individual who feels that way. Venting here will make you feel a little better or perhaps a little worse, dependent upon your personality. However; you can make a difference. Email, write, fax, call your elected representatives continually. Be focused, do not loose your temper, swear or call anyone names. If you do they will simply discard your comments. I sincerely hope that everyone does realize the seriousness of this issue for it is already in an accelerated state. I have phoned and emailed my reps to inform them of my feelings. Also, contact all those who may not be in your geographical area but have influence in this decision and let them know your feelings. So many here have sent in valuable website addresses. If you don't want to bother with looking those up, look up your local rep. in the phone book. Share those you have contacted with everyone else. "Listen to your heart. Never stop listening." Purcell went on the SBA trade mission to Mexico because he saw foreign markets as a way to increase profits in the face of intensifying competition from 15 companies in a stagnant domestic market. we as a family have already experienced the effect of NAFTA. Jobs being sent to mexico for a cheaper wage. The only problem with this is everything coming back to the warehouses are having to be fixed! Meaning the "cheap" work is exactly that! The entire town of Lenoir NC has felt this burden for years now. The furniture industry saw dollar signs and the Hell with the families relying on those jobs. Now the truck drivers (2 in my family) are going to have to deal with "illegal aliens" driving on the highways & byways of our United States. The roads are dangerous enough without adding uninsured, non-regulated, non-english speaking or reading drivers on them. How long will they be allowed to drive? 9hrs, 11hrs, and when the first fatality occurs will it be your child, your parents, or you? Will it be just another sad accident earning its 10 minutes of fame on NBC? I am a mother, a wife, a daughter, a christian, and I am a proud American. And, I do not want mexican trucks, mexican drivers, or mexican made products crossing my borders for any reason. Is violence the answer? No, I dont think so. But it is about time to put someone in office that dosen't have dollar signs in their eyes and something to gain with every decision made. How about for once we elect someone that gives a damn about the United States not their wallet.

For Angie who asked for a list, I am trying to compile one doing some research tonight as I take this very seriously. Here is a listing of Ford plants manufacturing in Mexico. This means that American citizens who used to make a living, supporting a family in the United States have now lost their jobs. Obviously Ford is not a product to buy. I could not find any research on exactly what Mexican rigs are trucking here, but stands to reason, there might be some auto carriers coming up. As a truck driver: being finger printed, drug tested, physicals every 2 years or as needed, certified, US citizen, knowledgeable, taxed, etc. What pisses me off its going to kill the owner-operators, independents, the small carriers, and large carriers by decreasing business, the way I see it the only ones that will benefit from this are the companies paying 1/4 or 1/3 of what American drivers make. Will companies pay less for shipping or will it be another form of sweatshop business. Where they are charged the same amount but the mexican truck company makes and keeps the money. How is this helping a mexican economy by allowing them to do as they please on American soil. Is this not just another form of terrorism? Let's be honest who is going to really regulate and watch what these drivers are doing (and hauling) on American roads after they are in America? Is each & everyone going to be checked before crossing the border? I don't see it happening. There is only so much that border patrols can do. Is it not the point of saving time and money by letting mexican trucks cross? So, why would extra people be paid to check cargo? And why would you slow them down when the whole point is to speed the process up? Sure save a little money, let a few more drugs through, and you better teach your kids to "just say no" By the way: I am against mexican trucks passing through the borders to deliver anything.

Truckers, Stevedores, etc., Attention, Allowing Mexican truckers access to all USA highways is the 1st step for Chinese Hutchinson Company to use their 2 Mexican West coast super cargo ship docking facilities (Manzanillo & Lazarocarpos), to accept all container shipments from China, bypassing the USA West Coast ports, San Diego, Los Angeles, Seattle and the Panama Canal and distributing cargos through out the USA, this a monopolized venture that eliminates America's Safe highways,Truckers,Stevedores and others Jobs, a serious case of unfair competition by dumping, importing cheaplabor on the USA.Hutchinson is a monopoly that owns docking ports throughout the world, partially owned by Americans and Majority indirectly the Chinese Government.

I think President Bush has crossed the line, and that's the second time. First with his demand for an open border and the most disastrous immigration bill in the history of America, and now by having invited 100 Mexican trucking companies to take part in his "cross border, destroy the Teamsters, encourage Mexican business to steal ours, and Damn the Supreme Court trade treaty with Mexico." Did you know that the Senate passed a law, overwhelmingly, that stops this US/Mexico truck business? And, did you know that the Supreme Court ruled the law constitutional? And, did you know that President Bush declared to the President of Mexico to disregard the Supremes, in essence "screw the court, keep on trucking?" His pilot program lets just the first 35 of those 100 companies start crossing into Texas, and then to drop off their loads within 30-35 miles of the border, and return home. Those 35 Mexican trucking companies, I'm sure like American companies, own and operate hundreds of trucks each. President Bush has just given permission for an untold number of Mexican trucks to cross our border, setting precedent for this kill American trucking plan of his. After that, it'll be too late to turn back the clock, they'll be operating, and run unchecked through this country. I'm not a trucker, but I was a budding apprentice to one of the finest teamsters I ever knew, my Uncle Harry! Used to ride with him on long hauls during Summer vacation from High School. He taught me to drive his rig and I even mastered backing the trailer into tight spots. In memory of my beloved uncle, am a Teamster in heart and spirit, and because I truly oppose NAFTA, I surely encourage all you truckers to stymie those Mexican trucks any way you can. Sandwich them between a couple of yours, totally block the highway with two rigs side by side at 10 mph (I love that one), and/or anything else you can think of to make those people sorry they took the jobs. If the president and his administration (Department of Commerce) won't listen to you, or anyone else for that matter, then you have the right to take the situation into your own hands. You can't do anything illegal, but you can really make Mr. Bush stand up and take notice, can't you!

I do support US truck drivers and do not wish to see any harm come to any US truck driver - financially, physically and any other way. I have been driving cross country for personal reasons by myself for the past 32 years and I appreciate all the US truck drivers out there. I have always felt safe with you out there especailly at night. I have seen the true brotherhood/sisterhood among US truck drivers and I hope it continues. Thank you for being out there and keeping this country going. I hope it all works out for you. Is there no way to get this on TV? I only heard about this on a.m. radio while driving.

Well, this is a clever move by the administration. Letting Mexican trucks into the U.S. allows importers to truck Chinese goods directly from Mexican ports to the interior of the U.S., thereby busting the longshoreman's union as well as American truckers. The U.S Coast Guard will not be able to patrol in Mexican waters and will have no role in screening the incoming ships. Obviously, the Bush administration is more interested in busting unions than in port security.

I am not a member of the Teamsters and don't drive a truck, but I grew up in a household that did. I am proud and thankful for all the teamsters have done for my family. My father worked for McLean Trucking doing short hauls and long hauls. He has passed now, but his love for the trucking guys lives on in his family...I for one dont want to see these people on our highways. They cant speak English, read English, and how in the world are they going to be safe. I think it is just the start of things to come. I have read that they want to do the same with the longshore union. They have the ports in place in Mexico to the give the goods to their truckers, by pass the American Ports and American Truckers...I think it is an outrage!...putting our truckers out of business and on welfare rolls. You have to got to ask yourself who is going to benefit from this, it sure not the American Trucker. My father was one of the founding members of our local teamsters.

I can't believe that teamsters members are not creating a border blockade. If this were to occur then political representatives would begin to listen. When the outrage dies down so does the amount of attention devoted to it by government officials in a position to respond. If this does not occur continuing non-violent protest lines should be the next order of business. It's time to research local firms in everyone's area that deal directly or indirectly with Mexican trucking. Continuing lines at their place of business will produce results if they honestly believe their business will be negatively impacted. All of us can not of curse go to blockade the Mexican border but we can have an effect if we pursue action. "Listen to your heart. Never stop listening." Why has it been since Oct. 7, 2007 since anyone has talked about this? Do we all get upset and then just forget? We need to stay on top of this. I just heard about Secretary of Transportation Mary Peterson stirring up problems. She seems to think it is just fine to drive on roads with trucks and drivers that are substandard to ours and risk all of our lives. Oh, I forgot. She probably doesn't have to drive. She probably flies. Let's put substandard Mexican drivers and planes over our cities and see just how fast that gets changed! Come on everyone. Let's keep this at the front lines in everyone's face all the time. People who don't have any ties to the trucking industry have no clue about how serious this is.

Because Devan, unfortunately to actually deal with impacting issues requires work and commitment and most quite simply move on to the next spin that requires no action. The answer you would undoubtedly receive is that "I have to take care of myself." However when taking care of # 1 is our motivating factor, we cease to recognize that #1 will cease to exist if we do not take care of each other and that is exactly what is happening today. The longer we pursue this path the more difficult it will be to take care of number one. Take care "Listen to your heart. Never stop listening." Henry Quick Bear, LAKOTA

I just don't get it. The government and 5 or 6 United States Presidents stood there for their little photo shoot and said NAFTA will be good for the country. My GOD!!!! What has been good about it? Are they totally frickin blind? We just lost two factories to Mexico and one to China just in the last two months. The town next to us just lost two factories to Mexico. That's hundreds and hundreds of jobs that just left our little corner of the world. We have to end NAFTA NOW!!!!!! If you want to call it protectionism...go ahead. It's time we in the United States unite and PROTECT our citizens and our jobs for our children. What the hell is going on???? It's seems like the country is in the middle of whirlpool and those in charge who can stop this are just letting the people in the U.S. go down the drain. Time to Take our country back... NOW!!! It all makes me so sad and I don't know what to do.
