History of Sterling Trucks

Sterling started out as an independent heavy truck manufacturing company. This company was purchased by White Motor Co. around 1953. They retired the company just two years later and it was dormant for a number of years. The Sterling brand was later resurrected by Freightliner and went on to manufacture class 8 heavy-duty semi tractors, as well as a variety of medium-duty and heavy-duty cab and chassis. This American truck manufacturer was a subsidiary of Daimler Trucks North America LLC. The Sterling Trucks product lines were discontinued in October 2008 so that Daimler could focus more on their other heavy-duty truck brands, Western Star and Freightliner.

Sterling Truck Models

The Sterling 360 was one of their most popular models. This is a medium-duty truck with a cabover style body. It was sold in the United States and Canada as the Fuso FE and in Australia, Europe, New Zealand and Asia as the Fuso Center. The Sterling Acterra was another popular model. It was available in classes 5-7 with many options for body style, including crane truck, box truck, straight truck and flatbed.

Although Sterling has gone through many changes over the years, their name is known throughout the trucking industry in the United States. You can find Sterling trucks with a variety of options for driver safety and comfort.

Some of these options include:

  • Low mileage
  • Long wheelbase
  • Air conditioning
  • Tool box
  • Axle lock
  • Rachet straps
  • Air-ride suspension
