Chassis Trailer Types and More About Chassis Trailers

Trucking company owners, drivers or owner-operators who are interested in chassis trailers can browse our listings from some of the top names in the trailer industry. These include Cheetah, Strick, Pratt, Custom Built, and Hyundai. Photos of each chassis trailer is available. Our listings are updated frequently and also contain information about each trailer including number of axles, composition, length, axle configuration, suspension type, and tire size. All of the trailers listed are available individually, and some are also available in groups. Call the contact number in the listing for more information about group pricing. The listings also include links for more information about insurance, financing and more.

The first chassis trailer was reportedly designed by August Fruehauf. He was a blacksmith in Detroit in 1914. Fruehauf designed and built a carriage for a customer who wanted to transport his boat over land. The carriage was attached to a power unit made by Ford, and was also used to haul lumber and other materials. The Fruehauf Trailer company was incorporated by August in 1918. They still manufacture semi trailers.

Choosing the right chassis trailers for your company can be complicated, especially if your company commonly hauls many different types of materials. Forty feet and twenty feet are the most common lengths for chassis trailers, but other lengths are also available. Many chassis that are designed to haul containers are equipped with removable goosenecks, while others have stationary goosenecks or other types of hitches. Some chassis trailers that are designed to haul tanks have drop frames so that the center of gravity is lower when they are loaded. Be sure to read the description carefully and look at the photos to make sure the chassis trailer you are looking at meets your needs. It's also a good idea to call the contact number in the listing if you have any questions or need additional information about a trailer or group of trailers listed for sale.
